Steven Robert Kohls, 57, of Dunn, was charged with eight counts of sexual activity by a custodian, three counts of sex offense in a parental role, and two counts of statutory sex offense of a child by an adult.
The alleged abuse was first reported on May 2, but investigators say it began as far back as 2005.
Kohls is listed as a CTE teacher at Broughton Magnet High School in Raleigh.

When he was taken into custody, Kohls was also a career and technical education teacher at Broughton Magnet High School. The Wake County Public School System said he was suspended with pay while the investigation continues.
Kohls is charged in incidents that did not happen at Broughton Magnet and did not involve any current students, according to school district officials.

On Thursday, Kohls made his first appearance in Wake County court, where prosecutors said he confessed in a recorded interview to performing a sexual act on a boy.
During the hearing, Kohls attempted to apologize, but was cut off by the judge.
Kohls, who is being held at the Wake County Detention Center without bond, is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Monday after new charges were filed against him on Friday. He will then return for a hearing the original charges on June 4, according to records.
